Nairobi, September 16, 2025 – On the occasion of World Ozone Day, Kenya has officially announced that it will host the 37th Meeting of the Parties (MOP-37) to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer https://www.unep.org/ozonaction/who-we-are/about-montreal-protocol. The meeting will take place in November 2025 at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Headquarters in Nairobi.
Speaking during the commemoration, Dr. Deborah Barasa, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, confirmed the development, highlighting Kenya’s commitment to environmental governance and multilateral diplomacy.
The Montreal Protocol remains one of the most successful international environmental treaties, uniting nations in the global effort to phase out harmful substances responsible for ozone depletion. Hosting this landmark gathering positions Kenya at the center of global discussions on ozone protection, sustainable development, and climate action.
The event will bring together representatives of nearly 200 countries, technical experts, and international organizations to assess progress, exchange best practices, and reinforce global commitments to safeguarding the ozone layer.
We celebrate this milestone as a strong demonstration of Africa’s role in shaping global environmental governance.
